“11:11 is an invitation to tap into your own inner knowing, inner joy, and enjoy the life fulfilment that’s possible for you. And fortunately doing this does not have to be long, complicated, esoteric, or difficult.” — Divine Openings
What’s the 1111 phenomenon all about?
I’ve never been particularly interested in numerology. The idea that numbers have individual meanings seems a bit too ‘out there’ to me, but with this in mind I’m not completely closed off. My website after all is dedicated to this sort of stuff.
Over the last few months I’ve been experiencing more and more synchronicities — one of which has involved seeing the number 11:11 or just 1111. I would glance at the clock randomly on my computer and the time would be 11:11 and I would feel a tingly feeling in my body. Similarly, I heard a song the other day with 1111 repeated.
Out of curiosity, I thought I’d read up about the significance of repeatedly seeing 1111 and was surprised to see loads of information written on the subject. Millions of people from all over the world have been experiencing the same thing. It could just be a coincidence — after all how many times have I glanced at a clock and seen the time but not given it my attention?
Whether there’s anything unusual about seeing the numbers 1111 or not, I thought I’d share with you what I’ve found out. Most of the information here can’t be backed up as being true so please try to be objective and make your own mind up.
What is the significance of seeing 11:11?
That’s really up to you to answer, but whenever I see the number I feel quite happy — whether that’s just because I’ve read a load of stuff that says seeing this number is a positive thing and I’m now reinforcing this fact — I don’t know.
According to Divine Openings “the meaning of 1111 changes and unfolds as you expand from early awakening to deepening enlightenment. In those early stages it’s an invitation to get just how amazingly orchestrated this universe is, to open your eyes to the miracles and Grace all around that you’re not seeing. As awakening opens up your perception, you see, feel, and know more of what is real, in the physical realm and beyond.”
Numerolgy and 11:11
According to Wikipedia, many “numerologists believe that events linked to 11:11 appear more often than can be explained by chance or coincidence”. How this can be measured accurately is beyond me. Also, am I more likely to see this number combination now I know it’s supposed to be positive?
“In my opinion and what resonates with me, is that when you see ‘11:11’ whether on a clock, a license plate, your bank statement or wherever you happen to see it, is like a friendly little sign from your soul, source, higher-self, or the entire Universe, whatever you choose to call it, God, if you will, that everything is in alignment and you are exactly where you need to be, right here, right now.” — Collective Evolution
If I’m honest, I want to believe that 1111 is significant. I can still be skeptical and look at all this objectively — after all, there’s so much we don’t know as a species and so much we don’t see, it would feel almost ignorant to be 100% closed off. Rational thought can only get you so far. I like to abide by the ‘be open until proved wrong or right’ philosophy.
1111 and angel numbers
Again, angel numbers is something I don’t know much about, but I came across a pretty lengthy description of how 1111 is a powerful angel number. I wholeheartedly believe that we shape and create our futures and essentially destiny through the power of our thoughts and imaginations. I’m now paying attention to the fact that I’m seeing this number more often than what I would consider to be just mere coincidence.
However, if the number combination didn’t have a supposed meaning with something that I believed in, would I still see this number? I suppose it’s like when you ask people for their opinion because you want them to confirm what you’re thinking — in other words, confirmation bias.
“Number 1 reminds us that we create our own realities with our thoughts, beliefs, intentions and actions. The repeating number 1 sequence (in all it’s forms) is most often the first sequence that appears to many people. Once the 1111 is acknowledged, the number sequence changes to another combination along with new messages, life experiences, directions and opportunities.” — Sacred Scribes Angel Numbers
“Angel Number 1111 shows you how to begin creating your reality, and is confirmation that your intentions are in the process of manifesting.” — Sacred Scribes Angel Numbers
1111 and the connection to the year 2013 and the Mayan calendar
“In the year 2013 on December 21st at 11:11 am the Mayan calendar ends. At this time, a global (or universal) spiritual awakening is supposed to begin.” Quote from the 1111 Youtube video
According to New Dawn Magazine, “the significance of ‘11:11’ may be linked to the coming enigmatic year of 2012, when some scholars believe that the exact moment of transformation predicted in the Mayan Calendar, and prophesied by the Hopi, the Hindu and even the Bible itself, will occur at 11:11am GMT. This theory further suggests that our “junk DNA,” the approximately 97% of our non-coding DNA, will somehow be responsible for triggering this spiritually awakened state of consciousness.”
Does the brain just like to recognise patterns?
Of course, there is always the explanation that our brains just like patterns, so we’re more likely to notice the time when it’s 11:11, 13:13, 22:22 etc. And of course, if you want to start seeing repetitions of something, you will. I like to call it the red bicycle theory — if you program your subconscious with the thought that you’d like to see red bicycles everywhere, you will notice red bicycles everywhere. Similarly, now I’ve read a lot about the significance of 1111 and how great it’s supposed to be, will I start to notice the number even more?
Something else I think we need to all be careful of is seeing patterns or creating patterns where there are none. Some people are saying that you should pay extra attention to your thoughts when you notice the number 1111 because there is significance here.
Whether this is true or not, you have to decide where to draw the line. It’s too easy to create patterns for things because almost anything random can be connected in some way. If you want to see meaning, it’s easy to do so.
Being sceptical about the 1111 phenomenon
“Now any good skeptic will stop at this point and say that this is simply the result of self-suggestion. You get the belief stuck in your head that you’ll see more 11s, so your reticular activating system begins finding them in your environment and bringing them to your conscious attention. There will seem to be more 11s simply because you’re noticing the existing 11s more often. You may be creating some of those 11s unknowingly, and you may also be subconsciously pre-selecting the right numbers to check.” — Steve Pavlina
1111 final thoughts
I always like to be be sceptical but not cynical and I think it’s important to be open to stuff like this because if you’re not you might miss something potentially life transforming. Equally though, I think remaining balanced and objective is so important. If you continually see these numbers, then work out what it means to you, if anything at all, and see where it will lead.
