Last week I enrolled on a Level Three Counselling Skills Course qualification for free. I’m currently on maternity leave and figured I could spend a bit of time doing the course each day whilst my baby is sleeping.
I thought it would lead on well from the Introduction to Counselling course I did at City Lit earlier this year, and also help with my one-to-one yoga teaching when I go back to it. I’m also considering training in Yoga Therapy so it this would definitely be useful if I go down more of a therapeutic route.
I’m not affiliated in any way with Learning Curve Group who I’m doing the course with, but I wanted to share with any UK readers that there are dozens of accredited course out there that you can do for free and actually get a recognised qualification at the end of it.
Here’s a list of training providers all over the UK offering Level 3 qualifications
As a course lover and someone who is continuously doing courses, this was too good not to share. I had no idea about this scheme until an ad popped up on my Instagram, so if you haven’t heard of it either, definitely check it out. I think there are quite a few organisations offering courses but Learning Curve is the one I’m doing mine with.
There’s a criteria for each course but it’s definitely worth checking out as it’s really easy to enrol and get started pretty much straight away. There are courses in such a wide range of industries from Business to Mental Health and Personal Training. Some are online and some are in person, and if you fit the criteria the government pays for it. There are also some for individuals and others for organisations to offer their staff.
You’re also allocated a tutor who will mark all your work, and although I haven’t needed to get in touch with anyone yet, the support team seems really good. The only catch is that if you need to cancel, you have to pay £125 which they’re up front about so be sure you definitely want to do the course before you enrol.
I should also add, as a course creator myself, I totally get the £125 fee if you cancel or don’t complete the course. I don’t know the exact statistic but an extremely high percentage of people who enrol in online courses don’t finish them, so in a way I can see the need for a £125 fee to almost motivate people to finish.
I can’t speak for other courses, but mine is mainly through reading as opposed to video. There are then lots of written assignments and exercises to do. The course content is really interesting, so I’m happy to learn in this way, but if I was to give constructive criticism I would say videos of the course content would be useful too.
