What I think of Jim Kwik’s Superbrain course and how to make the most of your brain

I am an affiliate for Superbrain and highly recommend the course you are looking to significantly enhance your memory, become more focused (something I’ve needed a lot of help with), and discover more of your brain’s amazing potential.

Superbrain is a course that goes beyond techniques to help improve memory — think of this as the ultimate workout for your mind.

Welcome to the future of your brain. — Jim Kwik

As of writing this, I’m 20 weeks pregnant and thought I’d use the techniques outlined in the course to help me feel as great as I can and make full use of my brain’s capacity (and the baby’s!) at such an important time in my life.

So far, I can honestly say I’m not sure I can remember a time when I felt so grounded and balanced. I have also had next to no morning sickness; I can now remember people’s names so much better when I get new people at my yoga classes; and I have a whole toolbox of techniques that I can apply to anything I do to help accelerate my learning. After I finished Superbrain, I also thought I’d apply the knowledge to help me learn how to drive (something I’d been putting off for a long time) — so good so far.

What is the Superbrain quest by Jim Kwik?

In many ways, Superbrain’s description of ‘learn faster, retain more, and forget less’ is an understatement. This course goes well beyond techniques to help improve memory.

Combining the latest in neuroscience, speed learning and peak performance techniques, below are the five main areas covered on the course. I loved this, because optimising your brain has to be a holistic process. You don’t just get techniques here — you get a whole program which includes which foods to eat, how to think more clearly, creating a bedtime routine…

1. Memory — This includes things like remembering factual information such as names, birthdays, lists…

2. Relationships — This is about becoming more charismatic and creating better connections with those around us.

3. Processing Power — Learn how to get rid of brain fog, so you can think more clearly, make better choices and solve problems that might otherwise have proved difficult.

4. Learning — This can be applied to anything such as learning a new language, or mastering a skill so much faster and more productively.

5. Lifestyle — This one is all about learning how to adopt better habits such as heating foods for optimum brain performance, being healthier overall and banishing self sabotage for good.

Who is Jim Kwik?

I was just as intrigued by Jim himself as I was by his course, because he’s living proof that anything really is possible. At just five years old, Jim suffered a head injury which meant his school years and learning became a real struggle for him.

However, he did not let this set him back, and is now one of the world’s foremost experts in accelerated learning and mental performance — working with Hollywood stars, and many other high profile celebrities and business people to help them reach excellence.

Jim essentially shows you how to make the most of your brain, so you can reach your full potential. His mission? To create a smarter and more caring world by ultimately giving you back your power.

How to use this course & constructive criticism

If knowledge is power, learning is a superpower. — Jim Kwik

For many of us — myself included — we’ve gone through the schooling system without really being taught how to actually learn properly. Subjects are divided up into neat boxes and very rarely do we tear down the walls and let the subjects merge.

A big focus of Mindvalley — who co created the course with Jim — is meta learning, which is the study of learning how to learn. This is therefore the course that really does break down the walls of segregated learning.

It doesn’t sit neatly within one subject area and is very much interdisciplinary, applying to pretty much everything — whether you’re a student wanting to enhance your brain’s learning capacity, you’re in full time work and just want to make your brain work as well as it can, or you’re in the process of learning something new and want to really optimise your performance.

This in many ways is the opposite of constructive criticism but I felt I needed to highlight this because if you are using the course to apply the knowledge to help you get the highest possible mark on an exam or optimise your performance in a certain area, for example, then it does require you take what you’ve learnt and apply the techniques to your chosen area.

You’re given all the tools you need, but it’s up to you to choose which techniques work best for you and then once again, up to you to apply the skills learnt to you and your life. You have to continuously take action throughout the course, so if you are looking for just a passive course where you can just watch videos and do nothing, this isn’t for you.

With this in mind, so as not to put too much pressure on yourself, it might be best to first do the course, which is 34 days long, and then if you are studying for something very niche, you can then use the skills you’ve learnt and apply them specifically to your chosen area towards the end. In the meantime, you’ll get all the other benefits of supercharging your brain as you do the course.

Final thoughts

I mentioned that I started this course during the first few months of my pregnancy which is my first and overall I feel amazing. I’ve had very little morning sickness and  have not had mood swings which I’m surprised about. Mentally and physically I’m in great shape, but I also learnt how to memorise lots of information in multiple ways.

Now I’ve finished the course I’m learning how to drive and applying the techniques to speed up the process.

The beauty of this course is that you’re given tools for life — which can be applied to pretty much an area of expertise — whether you need to memorise and hold onto lots of information at once with ease, you want to know how you can optimise your brain and mental functioning, or you’re learning something new for the first time and you want to accelerate the process.

I will also add that you’re not alone in this course. Sometimes online courses can feel a bit solitary as it’s just you learning, but there’s a whole community of other people doing the quest at the same time as you and you’re really encouraged to interact and share your journey with everyone else doing the Superbrain quest via the private Facebook group.
