Is the Law of Attraction Real or Fake?

March 7, 2013 by Clare

law of attractionCurrently, there’s no scientific evidence to suggest that the Law of Attraction works. The evidence that does exist is purely anecdotal – which means people might have a tendency to be biased.

If you’ve watched the Film ‘The Secret’ or read any of Rhonda Byrne’s books or films, you’ll know how persuasive she is. Everything is written as if it’s fact. I’ll never forget one man in the film, ‘The Secret’ who rather enthusiastically/ forcefully suggested that everyone on this planet is in the situation they’re in because of their thoughts.

I thought about all the people in extreme poverty, or those who are born into lives of misery, abuse or neglect. It seems so naïve to suggest that your individual thoughts are responsible for so much.

Despite being skeptical, I was still interested. After all, although Rhonda Byrne created a lot of hype around the Law of Attraction, it’s an idea that’s been around for centuries.

Whether the Universe responds to your thoughts or there’s a more rational explanation, there’s still a lot that hasn’t been explained. I like to think that if something works and it’s useful, why not try it? Think about how powerful the placebo effect is.

Intrigued, I decided to do some of the Law of Attraction exercises so I could understand more about the process. I won’t go into detail about what specifically happened in this post, but I will say that a lot of the exercises actually worked. I’m curious as to why.

When I started to focus on a goal – the end point rather than the process of getting there, I’d notice things around me related to my goals.

If you start focusing on something – anything; for example, your dream home or your ideal holiday, you’ll be more likely to notice opportunities. In some respects, the opportunities could have been there all along; but perhaps you just weren’t aware of them before. Perhaps this is how the Law of Attraction really works.

We’re bombarded with so much information every day; how much of it do we really notice or take in? It seems only rational to suggest that when you focus your mind on something, you will be more likely to achieve it and notice opportunities when they arise.

What are your thoughts? Have you had any positive or negative experiences with the Law of Attraction? Is there a universal law out there waiting to be validated by science or is it all a load of rubbish? Post your comments here.
